Week 6 - Greyhounds

Main story: Dog tails/tales.

Waiting outside for all the dogs to arrive, a suspicious owner drew a little too much attention to his dog, loudly offering us the opportunity to photograph 'a mutt with half a tail'. When asked what happened, he told us 'it was bitten off when he was a pup'.
Intentional docking of a greyhound's tail can result in a life ban at all greyhound racing clubs. Despite the talk, there is no evidence that tail docking increases the speed of a racing dog. However, fractures can sometimes occur that results in the removal of portions of the tail by a qualified veterinarian rather then treatment that may put the dog out of the competition for a period of time.
